Beaches

On a cold winter’s day in Dartmouth, wrap up warm and head to the beach.  Take a stroll whilst watching the waves roll in, breathing in the sea air.  Join the locals for a dip or pack your waterproofs and let the kids splash about in the waves.  All beaches are dog-friendly during the winter, so bring your pooch along for the ride! Candlelit Dartmouth

Get into the town’s festive spirit as the town comes alive with this festival.  It consists of a candlelit festival and the arrival of Father Christmas by boat.  Join a workshop before the procession to make your own lantern, or simply spectate the fabulous event! With street performers, stalls, and Santa, it is the perfect way to get into the festive spirit.

Dartmouth Castle

One of the most beautifully located fortresses in England.  A good family day out whatever the weather.  Learn about Dartmouth’s history whilst exploring the old castle and fort.  Admire the wonderful views out to sea whether it’s a sunny day or windy and choppy.  The castle is open on weekends throughout the winter and is accessible by foot or by car.  Stop for an ice cream, coffee, or lunch at the Castle Tea Rooms. This is simply the perfect historical winter day out in Dartmouth.

Dartmouth Food Festival

Dartmouth food festival is hosted in October each year.  It brings together local food and drink companies, showcasing what they have on offer.  It is a good way to check out the county’s excellent selection of goodies!  Taste local spirits, cheeses, chocolates and more. Dartmouth Museum

Occupying part of the historic Butterwalk, the building holds as much history as there is to learn inside.  There are extensive collections of artefacts, models, paintings, and photographs all related to Dartmouth’s history.  The museum is run by volunteers who are eager to pass their knowledge on to people of all ages.  The museum is open seven days a week throughout the year so pop in to learn more some local history.

Mayflower Trail

Created to mark the 400-year anniversary of the sailing of the Mayflower.  It tells the story of the town and its relationship with the voyage.  The trail is split into three sections. It can be completed in one walk or broken down into three shorter excursions.  It is the best way to learn more about the history of the voyage, and some of Dartmouth’s unique history, whilst exploring the town.

Shopping

Dartmouth’s streets are packed with charming and delightful shops, from high-end chains to small independents.  With an eclectic mix, it offers a unique experience for everyone.  Whether you are after a small momentum to remember Your Devon Escape, or some serious retail therapy, you will find it in this delightful town.  Dartmouth also holds a bi-weekly market throughout the year on Tuesdays and Fridays in the Old Market Square.  Pop in and have a look at the weekly selection on offer. The Flavel

The Flavel is the cultural centre of Dartmouth and hosts a variety of regular groups alongside having a cinema and library.  From language classes, musical workshops, holiday activities for children, and fitness classes, they have an action-packed calendar.  It is the perfect place for an indoor winter activity.  Whether you pop in to grab a book and have a read in the library, book into a group event, or fancy a film, they have you covered.  Check out their website and book for Your Devon Escape.

Woodlands
