If you are looking for a Remembrance Sunday Parade in Devon this year to pay your respects, there are lots to choose from. This year mark’s the 80th anniversary of the D-Day Landings in France. This is a significant event for the South Hams and much of Devon because the Allied Forces practiced for the event here. Much of the area was evacuated so preparations could be made. Brixham Remembrance Parade & Service
This 10th November in Brixham, the service commences at 10:58am. Members of the public are welcome to follow the parade, with the service at the Berry Head Memorial. A two-minute silence will be at 11am. If you have a wreath, you want laid at sea, please leave at the Lifeboat Station.
Dartmouth Remembrance Day Parade
The Remembrance Day Parade will march from the Guildhall to the town’s war memorial in the Royal Avenue Gardens on the 10th of November. The parade includes town dignitaries, clubs, organisations and service veterans. 300 BRNC cadets led by drummers will also march from the college into town to the Gardens. Members of the public who wish to pay their respects should gather in the Royal Avenue Gardens at 10:30am before the service begins. A two-minute silence will happen at 11am. They will distribute an Order of Service on the day.
Exeter Remembrance Sunday Service
At Northernhay Gardens and Exeter Cathedral this Sunday 10th November. The morning procession begins at 10:50am followed by a wreath laying service at the war memorial in Northernhay Gardens. A Civic Party led by the Lord Mayor and comprising City Councillors, Honorary Aldermen, MPs, representatives from the Emergency Services, Military, College, University and others will lead the Service of Remembrance. The Devon County Remembrance Sunday service will be at 4pm at Exeter Cathedral, accompanied by music from the Exeter Cathedral Choir, and attended by military and veteran associations.
Kingsbridge Remembrance Sunday Parade
This 10th November, Kingsbridge Remembrance Parade will commence at 10:45am. The parade will consist of veterans, youth groups, BRNC officer cadets and the council. All are welcome to join the service and wreath laying ceremony.
Paignton Remembrance Sunday Service
The morning church service will be at Paignton’s Parish Church at 10:15am. Later in the day, a wreath-laying service will take place at Palace Avenue Gardens and the War Memorial. The service begins at 3:00 pm, with wreaths laid by local dignitaries and organisations. Anyone wishing to lay a wreath, please contact the Royal British Legion branch chairman.
Plymouth Remembrance Service
This Sunday 10th November on Plymouth Hoe. There will be a two-minute silence at 11am at the Royal Naval Memorial. This year the service will be joined by the visiting German ship FGS Braunschweig, who will lay a wreath, followed by the Military Kids Club Heroes (a support group of service family children from across the city) and pupils from local schools. The processional party will then take their places at the Civilian Memorial in Lockyer Street, where the Bishop of Exeter will say a prayer. Wreaths will be laid there by the Lord Mayor, Captain of the Naval Base Iain Ritchie (on behalf of the armed forces) and Fred Thomas MP (on behalf of all the local Members of Parliament), followed by representatives from various services and organisations. The service will also be streamed on the Plymouth City Council YouTube channel.
