Our Favourite Blackawton Events

This quaint village may be a quiet oasis, but there are lots of interesting events happening in the area. From the village’s infamous wormcharming festival to other exciting events nearby, you will be in for a treat. Check out our favourite Blackawton events below!

Dartmouth Food Festival

Grown from humble beginnings in 2002, this festival is a first-class feast of entertainment featuring workshops, seminars, tastings, competitions, demonstrations and over one hundred and twenty hand-picked exhibitors. It truly showcases the best of the South West. This FREE festival is now a landmark event on the culinary calendar. The festival welcomes many special guests, from internationally renowned chefs to celebrated writers and critics, to provide a range of exciting, informative and delicious entertainment. Explore the marquees, sample different cuisines, and maybe buy a few bits to take home with you!

Dartmouth Music Festival

This FREE music festival is hosted in various venues in the beautiful Dartmouth. Dip in and out of churches, pubs, the culture centre and outdoor venues to enjoy an eclectic mix of music over the weekend. From folk music to church choirs to blues, if music is your thing, there will be something for you.  With over 80 acts performing over the course of the weekend, this annual event is one to not miss on a trip to Blackawton.

Dartmouth Shakespeare Week

This unique theatre experience is a cultural highlight of the summer in Dartmouth.  Each year the Inn Theatre Company puts together a Shakespeare production, performed at Dartmouth Castle.  This group was started by friends who thought it would be a good idea to put on an open-air production.  It has grown into a much-loved annual event in the South Devon calendar, choosing a new Shakespeare production each year to perform.  If you are in the area during this fabulous week, make sure to take a trip to Dartmouth and enjoy the performance!

Dittisham Regatta

This regatta takes place each August, with fun-filled events for all the family.  From rowing, sculling and whaler races to take part in or watch, to children-friendly activities such as a crabbing competition and obstacle course, there is something for everyone.  Stroll through the stalls of games, food, and drink, or simply just enjoy the entertainment. A short drive from Blackawton, this beautiful village is one to check out!

International Festival of Wormcharming

This internationally renowned event was voted “Europe’s Most Unmissable Festival” by Australian journalist Grant Mills in 2014.  You don’t need experience to take part, so why not give it a go! Arrive laden with potions and contraptions to try and beat the current record of 149 worms.  Fancy dress is encouraged. Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta

This well-known regatta attracts thousands of visitors from all over.  It is one of the oldest regattas in the country, with rowing and sailing at its core.  Spectate or take part in the various races, competitions and events taking place during the week.  From a road race to a tennis tournament and swimming gala.  Or ice cream eating, crabbing and pavement artist competitions.  There are lots to choose from.  With a fabulous fireworks display, a wonderful fair and lots of exciting things happening across the town, this annual event is one to not miss during a visit to Blackawton!

Tunes on the Sands

This festival is on the beautiful golden sand of Blackpool Sands.  With the ocean a stone’s throw away, this is quite simply a unique event.  It hosts a mix of local artists as well as big names.  Enjoy a cold beverage in the sun whilst listening to some excellent tunes right on the sand.
