Bay of Lights Illumination Trail
During the winter period, the English Riviera plays host to the Bay of Lights. Taking place throughout Torquay, Paignton and Brixham, the whole Bay will come alive with a flurry of illuminated events. The Illumination Trail runs along Torquay Seafront from the 29th of November to the 2nd of January. Enjoy one and a half miles of glittery lights and unexpected surprises. In Torquay, the festive lighting will be put up through Union Street and Fleet Street, courtesy of the Torquay Town Centre Partnership. You will find lights along the seafront in Paignton. In Brixham, residents and visitors will get to enjoy a magnificent eight-metre-high pixel Christmas tree that offers a digital light show. Candlelit Dartmouth
Candlelit Dartmouth is returning this year after a five-year hiatus on the 29th and 30th of November. Highlights over the weekend include a spectacular procession with hundreds of beautiful, hand-made paper lanterns and Father Christmas arriving by boat. There will be music in the gardens, stalls, mulled wine, Christmas late night shopping and a craft market in the Old Market Square. Christmas Markets
Nothing will ignite the festive spirit more than attending a Christmas Market. The atmosphere, the music, the stalls, and the delicious smell of hot food and drink help to get the festive period underway. Lanterns, Lights & ’Luminations
If you are looking to get yourself in the festive mood, this is the event. Brixham will celebrate its Christmas lights switch on with Lanterns, Lights and ‘Luminations this 22nd and 23rd of November. Organised by the Town Council, the event has traditionally included a magical lantern parade, an incredible firework display, live music, street entertainment, and a street market. The event is truly magical. The street market takes over Middle Street, The Strand, the Old Fish Market, and The Quay. It is the perfect place to pick up some unique Christmas gifts. Train of Lights
A multi-award-winning Christmas experience and the UK’s first ever Steam Train of Lights. It is the must-see event in the South West festive calendar. Decorated with thousands of lights, inside and out, hop into one of the vintage carriages. The journey begins along the coast until you reach Churston, where the show begins. You will be propelled through the four hundred and fifty metre Greenway Tunnel that leads you to the enchanted forest. The forest has been transformed with a multitude of lights with brand new feature displays that will blow you away. Look out the window and enjoy the illuminating journey. After a turnaround at Kingswear, you will be on your way back to Paignton to experience the spectacle from a different angle. It is the perfect evening out. Explore the coastline, enjoy a ride on the steam train, and discover the wonderful Christmas illuminations.
Polar Express™ at South Devon Railway
The Polar Express™ at South Devon Railway will theatrically recreate the 2004 Motion Picture for you and your family. Dive into the sights, sounds and intrigue of this classic children’s story. Prepare for a truly spectacular experience. Be surrounded by the magic and wonder of the season. Hear the faint sound of the sleigh bells in the distance as you take in the festive decorations at the Buckfastleigh Station. Check the elves’ scanner to see who’s been naughty or nice. Colour in your favourite character from the classic Christmas story. And before your magical journey, don’t forget to write and post your letter to Santa.
