Shepherds is a beautiful semi-detached cottage (with Cider House next door) in the tranquil hamlet of Hutcherleigh, South Hams. Sip your morning coffee or dine alfresco with delightful countryside views. Pick apples from the orchard, a stone’s throw from the cottage. This delightful property blends traditional charm with modern comfort, making it the perfect escape for your next Devon adventure.

Shepherds Cottage is set on two levels, offering the perfect space for family and friends to gather. On the ground floor you will find a comfortable living room with a wood burner, ideal for the cosy months. After a day of exploring, unwind on plush sofas and settle in with satellite TV, Netflix and Amazon Prime for entertainment. From the living room, you will notice a unique touch – an original wooden wall adorned with delicate hand-painted birds and bushes, created by the cottage’s previous owners. We are delighted to share this special feature with you, adding a bit of history to your stay.

The kitchen and dining room offer a traditional, yet well-equipped space, with everything you would need for your holiday. Enjoy preparing an evening meal over a glass of bubbly with the use of the electric Aga and enjoy the charm of the beautiful Belfast sink. A full-sized fridge, freezer and washing machine are also available for your convenience.

Upstairs, the master bedroom features a king-size bed, ideal for sinking into after a soothing soak in the classic roll-top bath. With ample storage space, you will have plenty of room to settle in for the week. The second bedroom includes a double bed, built-in wardrobe and plenty of storage for all your belongings. Between the two bedrooms, you will find a family bathroom with a modern shower to help kick-start your mornings.

For families with little ones, baby equipment such as a highchair, stair gate and travel cot are provided – just let us know when you book!

Step outside to appreciate the peaceful terrace, complete with a stone bench, iron table and chairs – perfect for alfresco dining or simply soaking up the fresh air. Outdoor lighting ensures you can enjoy the space well into the evening. The front terrace, overlooking the hamlet, is a fantastic sunny spot ideal for a morning coffee or a delicious evening meal. With stunning countryside views, it truly completes Your Devon Escape.

Shepherd Cottage benefits from a communal orchard roughly ten yards from the front door of the cottage. This is a great space to pick an apple from the tree or enjoy some family garden games and a lovely spot for your four-legged friend to run around with their ball.

There is designated parking for two cars in the nearby hamlet car park. If you are travelling with your furry friend, we welcome one well-behaved pet for an additional charge (please specify when booking).

If you have an extended family and you are looking to accommodate up to eight guests, then you can also consider the sister cottage, Cider House located right next door, making it very convenient to house grandparents or extended members of the family – please enquire here.

Nearby beaches of Blackpool Sands and Slapton Sands are a fifteen-minute drive away through beautiful Devon countryside. You are a short drive from the wonderful Woodlands Leisure Park, as well as nearby towns of Dartmouth and Totnes.

For a beautifully secluded Devon getaway, this is the spot.

Guest book...

"We spent a lovey few days at Shepherds and Cider, as a family of four adults spread across the two cottages. Our stay was the combination of luxury hotel with cosy and homely cottages. Both are extremely comfortable with everything you could possibly want - well equipped kitchens, hot showers and baths, super comfy beds - the list goes on! They are very well situated with towns and coast just a short drive away. Plus the fresh eggs from the 'ladies' were delicious. Thank you! We do hope to stay again in the future.".

"A fabulous stay - the cottage is a good size with everything you need. Very very comfortable, lovely leather sofas and a wood burner for the evenings. Separate kitchen and eating area - 2 double bedrooms with classic bath in one and a shower room. High chairs and stair gates available. Very clean and warm. Parking for 2 cars - play area for kids - and very easy to get to local attractions and towns. One of the best places we have ever stayed."

Mark & Vicky Whitely

"It’s fair to say this has been one of the most relaxing holidays we have ever had, with a mixture of lazy days in the cottage, and lovely days out and about. We never book a 7 day break, but this is the start of something new for us. I would totally recommend this destination and either one of the beautiful cottages that are on offer. Thank you so much for some wonderful memories"
