Kingsbridge Walks

Home to a beautiful estuary and set in luscious rolling hills, you are spoilt for choice when it comes to walk options in Kingsbridge. Check out our favourite Kingsbridge walks below.

Bigbury, Aveton Gifford and Bantham Circular | 8.5 miles

Check out this 13.5-km circular trail near Kingsbridge. It is generally considered a moderately challenging route and takes about four hours to complete. This trail is great for hiking, running, and walking. It is extra special because you are highly unlikely to encounter many other people while exploring! This walk is perfect for those who want to enjoy everything from river views and woodlands to arable fields and lots of birds. It gives you a good taste of what the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty offers!

Bigbury-On-Sea to Salcombe | 14 miles

This moderate to strenuous walk begins with a boat across the Avon to Bantham.  This walk shows you so much of what the South West Coast Path has to offer, with a section being one of the most beautiful sections of the whole path.  Pass the many beaches along the route and take a trip back to your favourite later in your stay.

Bolberry Down to Bolt Trail | 3.5 miles

This is an out and back trail. It is generally considered an easy route and takes about an hour and a half. It is a popular route, but it can still be enjoyed with some solitude depending on the season. Dogs are welcome throughout the year but are just asked to be kept on a lead. This beautiful trail runs along the cliffs between Bolberry Down and Bolt Tail, offering stunning, far-reaching views.

The trail has a mix of terrains, including tarmac, gravel, and grass footpaths. The trail starts at the National Trust Bolberry Down Car Park. Please note that the facility charges a fee for non-members. To begin the route, head northwest along the South West Coast Path. Along the way, you will pass Slippery Green, Greystone Ledge viewpoint, and Wise’s Pit before reaching the high headland of Bolt Tail. To return to the starting point, retrace your steps back. Enjoy your adventure!

East Portlemouth to Gara Rock | 4 miles

This moderate walk is a combination of uneven coast path and road.  Take a stroll above Salcombe Harbour, walking through buildings of the area’s history.  The walk encompasses many dog-friendly beaches where your pooch can take a dip.  Take in the breath-taking scenery and stop at one of the many sheltered and quiet beaches along the route.

Kingsbridge to Bowcombe Creek | 2.4 miles (4 miles including extended walk to Newbridge)

For this lovely scenic walk, start at Quayside Car Park. Go through the narrow alley to the right of Harbour House then left along Ebrington Street. Follow the righthand side pavement behind the bingo hall and continue along raised footway up the hill. Just above the church, turn right down a tarmac path. Turn left at the road (ignoring the footpath sign) and take a sharp right after 100m. Continue past Washabrook Farm and up the rocky green lane. At the junction, take the track to the left. At the bottom, turn sharp right onto the road along Bowcombe Creek.

To extend the walk here, follow the road along to the viewing platform, and the recreation area beyond at Bowcombe Bridge. Then, return the same way. Just past Rose Cottage, turn right over the stile and up the footpath through a small wood. At the public footpath fingerpost, turn sharp right up across the field to the far corner. Cross over the stone stile onto the footpath and follow the field edge path. Keep right through rugby club car park. Cross the road and stile onto the footpath and make your way down the steep scrubby field. Join the road on the left and then turn immediately left through the recreation ground. At the road, turn right and follow the creek back to the car park.
