Days out with kids can be expensive. That’s why at Your Devon Escape we wanted to let you take advantage of the free activities for kids in Devon. There are endless activity options for you to enjoy without them having to break the bank. Below we have put together a list of free activities for kids in Devon for you to experience on Your Devon Escape.
Crabbing
Children love crabbing. It is simply a fact. So, it is a good thing that there are so many excellent spots to try this sport in Devon. From tidal rivers to harbours, be sure to bring your crab lines and bait to make your catches. If you don’t already have the gear, then there are lots of local shops that you will be able to find supplies in. Please be sure to always keep your kids under close supervision as no one wants to end a fun day crabbing dripping wet. For the best places to go crabbing, check out this article.
Dartmoor National Park
Dartmoor National Park is made up of wild, open moorlands and deep river valleys. The park is a unique place, being rich in history and rare wildlife. What is so great about the moors (besides the stunning views and beautiful countryside) is the fact that most activities are completely free! Put on your walking shoes and head up to the moors for a day of exploration for the whole family. Or if you brought bicycles on Your Devon Escape, follow one of the many trails across the moors. Or for something a bit more unique, download the geocaching app and find the stashes across the tors and kerns. Make each walk a hunt for the stashes as the kids explore the tors and countryside. For recommendations of what to get up to on the moors, head to our journal.
House of Marbles
Explore the marble museum and set the marble runs going for endless fun. It is the perfect activity for a wet or windy day in Devon. This small attraction is home to some fascinating marble runs that will keep the kids entertained for hours whilst you browse the unique gifts in the shop. Their main business is to produce quality vintage and traditional toys, games, gifts, and books. However, you will find they have so much more on offer than just a shop. The site has grown over the years to become the shop, glassworks, restaurant, games garden and museum that is present today. A short drive from Totnes, in Bovey Tracey, pop over to enjoy one of the many free activities for kids in Devon.
